Why Windows keys vary so much in price
Windows licences come in different distribution forms. A previously used licence may be lawfully resold, which is the basis for legal price reductions.
Very cheap keys, on the other hand, often come from sources that are not intended for open resale to end customers. They may activate in the short term and cause problems later on. Price alone does not tell the whole story, but a price well below the market rate is a clear warning sign.
What to look out for when buying a cheap Windows key
- A realistic price. Significantly cheaper than the Microsoft Store is possible. A fraction of that is unrealistic.
- A VAT invoice. No legitimate offer comes without a proper proof of purchase.
- Reachable support. Phone, live chat, email. Questions can come up during Windows activation.
- An activation guarantee. A reputable provider stands behind the fact that the licence works.
