What a one-time purchase actually means
With a one-time purchase you acquire an Office perpetual license. You pay an amount, once, and the Office version you bought belongs to you. There is no expiry date, no recurring charge and no feature that gets switched off after a deadline.
The opposite model is the subscription, where you pay on an ongoing basis and use ends when the subscription does. A one-time purchase is right for anyone who uses Office over several years, which applies to the vast majority of users. Over time it is considerably cheaper than an ongoing subscription.
