What Microsoft Visio does
Microsoft Visio is used to create visual representations: flowcharts, organizational charts, network diagrams, floor plans and technical drawings. It complements classic Office, but is a standalone program and not part of the Office suites such as Home and Business or Standard.
Visio is available as a perpetual license for one device. As with Office, the same applies: a one-time purchase means permanent use without recurring costs. Anyone who uses Visio regularly is, over the years, better off with the perpetual license than with a subscription.
The two Visio editions
- Visio Standard. Covers the common diagram types: flowcharts, organizational charts, simple plans. Suitable for most users.
- Visio Professional. Additionally offers advanced diagram types, professional templates and the linking of diagrams to data sources. For more demanding or data-driven visualizations.
- Choose the edition to suit your needs. Anyone creating standard diagrams will be fine with Visio Standard. Professional is worthwhile for data linking and specialized diagrams.
- Platform. Visio is available for Windows; when buying, make sure to choose the right version.
