Standard and Professional Plus in Office 2019
In Office 2019, the difference between Standard and Professional Plus is limited to a single program: Access. Standard includes the core apps plus Publisher. Professional Plus adds Access, the database program. Everything else is identical in both editions.
| App | Office 2019 Standard | Office 2019 Professional Plus |
|---|---|---|
| Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook | Included | Included |
| Publisher | Included | Included |
| Access | Not included | Included |
Why Office 2024 is the better choice for new purchases
As clear as the edition difference is, it is just as important to look at the version itself. Office 2019 has passed its regular support period and no longer receives regular security updates. For a machine in productive use, that is a real drawback.
Anyone buying new today should therefore ask the edition question in the context of a current version. Office 2024 offers the same edition logic, Standard with Publisher and OneNote, Professional Plus additionally with Access, plus security updates until October 2029. Office 2019 only remains worthwhile if an application requires exactly this version.
