Determining your Windows licensing needs
- Count your devices. Every device that runs Windows needs a licence. That gives you the baseline requirement.
- Clarify how each device is used. Devices with domain integration, BitLocker, or Remote Desktop need Windows Pro. Plain standard workstations are often fine with Home.
- Consider servers separately. Server operating systems such as Windows Server are licensed in their own right, often with additional access licences.
- Plan for headroom. For growing businesses, it pays to factor in your needs for the coming months.
Organising procurement cleanly
Windows licences for businesses are procured as individual perpetual licences, one per device. From 2 licences per order, the volume discount applies. Every order comes with a VAT invoice in Swiss format, which serves as proof of purchase for accounting and auditing.
Before a larger procurement, a short consultation is worthwhile. Together with you, we review which devices really need Windows Pro and where Home is sufficient. This way you avoid buying the more expensive edition across the board, while still maintaining audit reliability.
