Windows 10 and 11 installation and activation
1. Download the software
Please first download the appropriate software directly from the official Microsoft servers.
Windows 10
Download Windows 10 (Official Microsoft page)
Windows 11
Download Windows 11 (Official Microsoft page)
Tip for Windows users: On the Microsoft page you will find the "Media Creation Tool". Download it and run it to create a bootable USB stick or to start the upgrade directly.
2. Activate Windows 10 and Windows 11
Once Windows is installed, follow these steps to activate it. Make sure you have an internet connection.
Step-by-step:
- Open the Start menu and click on the gear icon (Settings).
- Depending on your version, go to:
- Windows 10:
Update & Security>Activation. - Windows 11:
System>Activation. - Click on Change product key.
- A blue window opens. Enter your 25-character product key here.
- Click on Next. Windows will now activate automatically.
Important note: Please make sure that the installed Windows edition (e.g. "Home" or "Pro") matches the key you purchased. A "Home" key cannot activate a "Pro" version and vice versa.
Help with problems
If something does not work, please quickly check these points:
- Avoid typos: Watch out for mix-ups such as 'Q' and '0' or 'B' and '8'.
- Correct version: A "Home" key will not activate a "Pro" Windows. Check under Settings > System > About which version is installed.
- Remove pre-installations: Uninstall pre-installed "trial versions" of Office (often present on new laptops) before installing your purchased version.
